When I first started baking, I didn’t give a lot of thought to the combination of cake and frosting flavors. I grew up on a farm, where I started baking at a young age with my grandmas’ and several great grandmas’. Back then, you did what your grandma did and it just turned out great. But as I started baking for others, I realized there was way more this than doing simply what your grandma taught you. Yes, you need those homemade techniques and lessons, but if you want to share with the world, you have to expand on those great home grown baking lessons and find even better flavor combination’s.
That is why this recipe was such a challenge.
In the end, I think grandma would be proud. This homemade Vanilla Bean cake would live up to all of their standards and I even managed to find the perfect icing to compliment this wonderfully spongy, moist cake.
I heart balls!!!!!
My sister brought your wonderful Lemon and Red Velvet cake balls over as a birthday gift. I must say, “They were as decadent as they were beautiful.” It was such a novel idea to have the balls instead of a huge cake. I have recently lost 30 lb and did not feel so bad having one (…or two) of each, then sharing with my family and co-workers. I’m looking forward to experiencing them again in the future.
Thanks for all the love you have put into them,
Melanie
Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words! I am very pleased to know that you and your family enjoyed them. Happy birthday and congratulations on your weight loss!!! Glad to hear you allow yourself a “little” indulgence every now and then 🙂
