Vanilla Bean Cake Balls

What attracted me to this recipe is the use of the natural use of the Vanilla Bean along with great baking ingredients.
Real Vanilla Bean
I was also looking for a vanilla cake that would light and fluffy, giving cupcakes a nice sponginess, yet still combining with the frosting to create a yummy cake ball.

I tried three different frostings for this cake. The first two had a unique flavor on their own, but when I added them to the cupcakes and cake balls, they didn’t compliment the natural Vanilla Bean in the way I looking for.

By the third frosting, I narrowed it down to a more traditional Buttercream that was good, but allowed the great cake flavor come through. Not to mention, it worked really well as a cake ball.

When I first started baking, I didn’t give a lot of thought to the combination of cake and frosting flavors. I grew up on a farm, where I started baking at a young age with my grandmas’ and several great grandmas’. Back then, you did what your grandma did and it just turned out great. But as I started baking for others, I realized there was way more this than doing simply what your grandma taught you. Yes, you need those homemade techniques and lessons, but if you want to share with the world, you have to expand on those great home grown baking lessons and find even better flavor combination’s.

That is why this recipe was such a challenge.

In the end, I think grandma would be proud. This homemade Vanilla Bean cake would live up to all of their standards and I even managed to find the perfect icing to compliment this wonderfully spongy, moist cake.
